Tomorrow is Thanksgiving. In honor of this uniquely American holiday, here are some Thanksgiving trivia facts.

The first recorded instance of a fall feast of thanksgiving was in 1621 to celebrate a bounteous harvest. It wasn’t made an official holiday until 1863 by President Lincoln.

Historians can’t agree whether the Pilgrims had turkey at the first Thanksgiving celebration.

The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade began in 1924 with large balloons of comic book character. The first balloon was Felix the Cat. This year, Felix will be back for the first time since 1930.

Thanksgiving is the biggest alcohol-consumption holiday, even bigger than New Year’s Eve. So be careful out there on Thursday night.

The Chicago Bear and the Detroit Lions played the first NFL Thanksgiving Day game in 1934.

Although turkey does contain tryptophan, an amino acid that can cause drowsiness, it probably isn’t the reason you want to take a nap after Thanksgiving dinner. The most likely cause is overeating.
